‘Twas the Night After Christmas
by Aby Garvey
‘Twas the night after Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a thing was away, not even my new blouse.
The stockings were thrown by the chimney without care,
And knickknacks and gadgets were strewn everywhere.
The gift wrap was scattered. The boxes were strewn.
I gasped as I looked all around the trashed room.
What was I thinking, when I bought all this stuff?
Why didn’t I realize ten gifts were enough?
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of organization danced in my head.
“But where should I start?” I wondered inside,
“How can I begin, when I’d rather go hide?”
And then in my in-box an email did appear,
From a lady named Aby (who has no reindeer;)
“Go slowly. Go easy. You’ll get there”, I think.
“You can do this—use the tips right here in ink.”
You’re asking yourself “Where will all this stuff go?”
It feels overwhelming, this I do know.
You’ll get it put away, just remember to breathe,
And if you start on it now, you’ll be done New Year’s Eve!
😉
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!!
Hey Aby,
Thanks, as always, for a word of sanity that I needed. I snuck (is that a word?) from the chaos and clutterand 9-hour wii-marathon that my house has been all day, to read blogs and have a moment of peace, and felt like “Wow, someone else feels like this!” Great day, wonderful time with hubby and kids, time to get things in shape for the New Year and new baby coming in a month. You are absolutely right, just take it one step at a time.
Merry Christmas!
Dawn
Hi Aby – Loved the poem! As that is exactly what I am looking at as I rolled out of bed this a.m. Exhausted mommy, for sure. While the kids are upstairs playing with their ‘goods’ I will tackle things under the tree – ONE THING AT A TIME!
Happy Holidays to you! Love reading your blog!

I loved getting your newsletter right before Christmas! It was an encouragement. Enjoy the rest of the holiday season with your family.
Hee hee! I just love poetry! My tidying up hasn’t been too overwhelming, since we were pretty careful not to overdo this year. We are learning!
Great poem! We made it a family affair…everyone pitched in Christmas night and got all the new gifts put away. Then my sweet huby and all the kids undecorated the house today while I worked on homeschool planning. It feels nice to have things back in order.
Thanks for the newsletter, and thanks for taking the time to write this cute poem. Sometimes when you feel all alone in the world, it’s nice to find out you’re not! 🙂 Happy 2008!
wishing you the happiest of new years! still can’t get myself to take down the tree – that will be that the holiday is over. but there is a slight “yahoo” over here – kids go back to school on wed!
Have a Happy & Healthy New Year!
Got your book for Christmas. It was my favorite gift. Have read it and spent three exhausting days implementing the plan on my existing dedicated space. BTW – I never knew I liked Open and Visible but I so do! Excited about my newly organized space. Thanks for the direction – the quizzes helped tremendously! Happy New Year.

Awesome! So cute Aby… how do you do it?
Aby,
Thanks for the poem. I’m missing your other great insights as I start my New Year. BTW, Our tree will be coming sown today. School begins tomorrow!!!! Finally, a day for me to get things in order. I’m glad I’m not the only mom who feels that way.
