…and it’s time to get ourselves organized for a weekend of having fun and getting things done! How was your week? Mine was okay. I felt somewhat overwhelmed by the enormity of my to-do list. I’m feeling much better today after clearing the decks a bit last night. I reorganized my office, just a smidge, which always makes me feel better. What do people who don’t love to organize do to relieve stress and overwhelmed feelings? These are the things I ponder in my free time… Anyway, it’s Friday now, my office is neat and tidy, and I’m feeling motivated to get some stuff done. Here are my weekend plans.
Fun
- Run 4 miles. I’ve already run six miles this week…so just four more to go. (Goal #1) Check!
- Boot camp. Check!
- Knit. Check!
- Do some creative projects. I have a bunch of stuff I’d like to do this weekend, including making some new, fun labels for my laundry room. Nope. 🙁
- Project Life. Complete pages for weeks 5 and 6. (Goal #3) Progress made.
Done
- Order photos. (Goal #3 – Project Life.) Check. This took longer than expected as I sorted through and edited a bunch of 2012 photos. (I may be feeling a new goal coming on…)
- Fill out summer school forms. I cannot believe it, but I have a kiddo that will be going to High School next year! How did that happen? Check. Heading over to turn in the forms and the check shortly. Wow!
- Work on my new workshop. Originally when I set out to do 13 Goals in 2013 I was planning to make all 13 goals personal and not business goals. But…as I work on putting the finishing touches on The FUNdamentals of Getting Organized, I have realized that big simplify 101 projects like these spill into my personal time, in a big way. I don’t mind it really, but this is the time when I would be working on other goals. I’ve decided that it’s only fair that these business goals “count” toward my 13 goals in 2013. They are a really big part of my life and in so many ways they are central to my happiness (my word for 2013.) And so…there you have Goal #4. Okay…I did other business work that needed to get done due to the time that went into the workshop last week. So…I’m declaring a check. 😉
- Laundry. Check!
- Meal Plan and Grocery Shop. Check!
What are your plans for the weekend? Remember, if you’re participating in 13 in 2013, too, the weekend is a great time to check in on your goals and make plans to make progress! I’d love to hear your plans for the weekend as well as how you’re doing on your goals! Have a great weekend.
P.S. I haven’t forgotten about post #3 on getting organized for Project Life. It is still very much a part of the enormous to-do list I referenced earlier. 😉
FUN
1. Sleep! I know it doesn’t sound fun but I’ve been really tired this week and sleep will be a welcome activity!
2. Hang out with some friends. This may or may not happen, depending of schedules.
3. Date Night with Husband.
DONE
1. Hang jewelry pegboard and get it organized.
2. Declutter & organize garage
3. Hang some wall art. It’s been 7 months and I’m tired of our walls being bare!
4. Get oil changed.
5. Post to blog. I’m still struggling getting back in my blog groove 🙁
6. The usual laundry and housework.
Good luck to everyone!!!

Sounds like a nice weekend. 🙂 Thanks for joining me SuzieQ.
Last weekend was all about fun (and boy, it was a GREAT time), and then I had to jump right back into work once I got back, so now I need to use my weekend to get back into my routine.
Done:
Grocery Shop
Organize Planner for Next Week (Helps me with Goal # 3)
Clean Bathroom and Kitchen (part of Goal # 2)
Laundry
Organize and Plan for Goal # 5. (It’s kinda taken a back seat lately. And I’m getting frustrated with it. So, I need to spend a little time planning. Maybe setting some intermediate goals.)
Fun:
HIBERNATE!– I’m so done with winter I could cry and with another big storm coming in this weekend, I’m gonna do my version of hibernating! Eat, sleep, read, write, watch movies. Even my “done” list is all indoor stuff. My grocery shopping will probably have to wait until Monday. (But I usually consider Monday part of my weekend anyway because I don’t go back to work until late Monday night)
Checking In:
Done:
Grocery Shop–CHECK
Organize Planner for Next Week (Helps me with Goal # 3)–CHECK
Clean Bathroom and Kitchen (part of Goal # 2)–HALF CHECK (got the kitchen done, but not the bathroom.
Laundry–CHECK
Organize and Plan for Goal # 5. (It’s kinda taken a back seat lately. And I’m getting frustrated with it. So, I need to spend a little time planning. Maybe setting some intermediate goals.)–CHECK
Fun:
HIBERNATE!– CHECK! Complete with eating, sleeping, movies, games with my sister, etc. Unfortunately no writing this weekend though. My writing mojo seems to be on vacation right now. My brain just doesn’t want to work on that project! So, we’ll have to work on that this week, figuring out what my problem is and looking for solutions. (Solutions, incidentally is my word for the year.)
Thanks for checking in Shannon! I hope you find the solution to your writing this week. 🙂 Hope to see you again on Friday.

I ended up getting really sick on Friday night, so the weekend wasn’t what I expected, but all things considered, I still had a good birthday weekend.
FUN:
*DH will be home after being out-of-town all week! – CHECK!
*Family movie/pizza night. Youngest son is bringing his new girlfriend 🙂 – CHECK!
*Piano competition for youngest son on Saturday – CHECK! (He did great!)
*Work on meal planning/recipe binder – Sadly, no.
*Watch the Academy Awards – CHECK!
*Celebrate my birthday! – CHECK!
DONE:
*Major housecleaning (using the new girlfriend’s visit as motivation!) – CHECK!
*Pay bills – nope; on tap for Monday morning
*Laundry – CHECK!
*Bible class prep & teaching – had to turn this over to DH since I was sick
*Homeschool review & planning – some done
*Work on taxes (maybe…if it doesn’t interfere with my celebration weekend) – no
*Work really hard on Friday in order to take the weekend “off” – This is a “check”, but I’m afraid it contributed to my getting sick. Oh well, I still have a nice, clean house 🙂
So sorry you were sick for your birthday weekend Lycia! Glad to hear you still managed to get some things done and have some fun. 🙂

Hi Aby,
I’ve kept on track with keeping things organized over the past year. Get Organized for the Holidays (GOftH) has become our Christmas tradition saver (hubby pulls the book out throughout the year when we come up with gift ideas). Last year, he pulled out the book one day while I was at work and got the heavy lifting part of the decorations done (and didn’t have to ask me “where do you want this?”). Using GOftH, I have reclaimed the joy of the holiday season and don’t reach New Year’s in a state of exhaustion.
It’s February and I’ve just been volunteered to plan a family reunion for the 4th of July, so I’m modifying some of the forms from GOftH to help me plan the reunion. This past weekend we got started with the planning:
* Pulled up the family Christmas card list to use as an invite list
* Found an electronic copy of the Reunion invitation letter from 12 years ago (last time we had a reunion)
* Pulled down my “party boxes” and inventoried paper plate, plastic silver ware, cups, plastic serving bowls, and chafing racks
* Went to GFS (love the catering sized packaging) and in an hour got price checks on everything we may need for the reunion
* Next step is to figure out which tasks can be delegated to other family members
One weekend of planning and action and I feel like I’m a month ahead of myself on this reunion. I’m excited about being able to spend time with the family instead of running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I want to be able to enjoy this reunion, like I enjoy our Christmas holiday traditions.
This is terrific!! So happy to hear that Get Organized for the Holidays is helping both your holiday season and your upcoming reunion!! Thanks for letting me know. It’s nice to hear from you. 🙂
Aby
